Key Findings

Overall Findings and Trends Over Time

  • In 2013, 67% (±3) of adults aged 18 and over in Halton Region reported that it is very important to them to get nutritious food when eating meals not prepared at home, compared to 28% (±3) who reported it was somewhat important to them, and 5% (±1) who reported it was not important to them.
  • From 2001 to 2013 the percent of Halton adults aged 18 and over who reported that it is very important to them to get nutritious food when eating meals not prepared at home increased from 60% (±3) to 67% (±3), and this increase was statistically significant.
  • From 2001 to 2013 the percent of Halton adults aged 18 and over who reported that it is somewhat important to them to get nutritious food when eating meals not prepared at home decreased from 36% (±3) to 28% (±3), and this decrease was statistically significant.
  • From 2001 to 2013 there were no statistically significant changes in the percent of Halton adults aged 18 and over who reported that it is not important to them to get nutritious food when eating meals not prepared at home.

Sex

  • In 2013, Halton females [73%(±3)] aged 18 and over were more likely than males [57%(±5)] to report that it is very important to them to get nutritious food when eating meals not prepared at home. This difference was statistically significant.

Age

  • In 2013, the percent of adults aged 18 and over in Halton who indicated that it is very important to them to get nutritious food when eating meals not prepared at home increased as age increased. This difference was statistically significant when comparing adults aged 18-24 [46%(±14)] to adults aged 25-44 [66%(±6)] and 45-64 [65%(±4)], and when comparing adults aged 65 and over [77%(±5)] to all other age groups.

Municipality

  • In 2013, there were no statistically significant differences by municipality in the percent of adults aged 18 and over in Halton who reported that it is very important to them to get nutritious food when eating meals not prepared at home.

Income and Education
