Additional Information - Walkable Communities


Many municipalities are working towards improving the walkability and bikeability of our communities in Halton. Here are some examples of their achievements:


In Halton we have many local champions that support the development of walkable communities. Watch these videos for inspiration and use them to start a conversation with others.

International charter for walking

In 2009, Active Halton brought together partners from the Halton Region Health Department and the Parks and Recreation departments of the Town of Oakville (PDF file), the Town of Milton (PDF file), the Town of Halton Hills (PDF file), and the City of Burlington (PDF file) to create local pedestrian charters. Later in the same year, Halton Regional Council endorsed the International Charter for Walking (PDF file). To learn more about pedestrian charters, visit walk21 (external link).
