Starter Company Plus

Starter Company Plus is an entrepreneurship program designed to support and strengthen small business by providing training, mentoring and micro-grant opportunities for eligible individuals 18 years of age or older, to start, grow or buy a small business.

The program is funded by the provincial Ministry of Economic Development and Growth.

Within Halton, the program will address local economic development needs and focus on the following specific streams:

The Newcomer stream is for recent immigrants who have been granted permanent resident status and have been living in Canada five years or less.

The Export-oriented stream is for businesses that are or will be providing a product or service to primary target markets outside of Ontario.

Main Street
The Main Street stream is for businesses interested in providing a product or service within their local community.

For the duration of the program, there will be four cohorts, with each cohort running for six months. Below is a table displaying the dates for each cohort and information session. To apply for the program you must attend the information session.

How can the Starter Company Plus program help?

Starter Company Plus offers eligible participants:

  • Entrepreneurship training and skills development
  • Mentorship opportunities with experienced, local entrepreneurs and professionals
  • Access to business seminars
  • An opportunity to receive a micro-grant of $4,500

Who is eligible to participate in the program?

Individuals applying to the program must satisfy the following criteria:

  • 18 years of age or older at the time of application
  • Proposing a new business, expansion of an existing business or buying a business
  • Not attending school full-time nor returning to school for the duration of the program
  • Resident of Halton Region
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Not currently enrolled or have participated in any provincial employment or self-employment related programs
  • Not currently enrolled in any self-employment or entrepreneurship training/financing program offered by government funded organizations

Starter Company Plus is open to all eligible individuals; however it is a training and mentoring program to assist those in need of business knowledge and support.

It is a competitive process and not all applicants will be accepted into the program.
