Rapid Risk Factor Surveillance System (RRFSS)

What is RRFSS?

RRFSS is an ongoing telephone survey that the Halton Region Health Department uses to collect information about health-related behaviours among Halton adults 18 years of age and over. Participants will be asked questions about such topics as smoking, physical activity, alcohol use, sun safety, bike helmet use and more.

What is the Purpose of RRFSS?

The purpose of RRFSS is to provide timely, useful data to help the Health Department plan, implement, evaluate and improve public health programs and services. We need to learn more about the behaviours of Halton residents so that we can improve the health of our community.

How did you get my telephone number?

To select telephone numbers, the Institute for Social Research (ISR) uses a modified form of random digit dialing along with commercially available lists of telephone numbers which includes unlisted household and cellphone numbers.

Who will be interviewing me?

Trained telephone interviewers will call from the Institute for Social Research (ISR) at York University and ask you to participate in the survey.

Do I have to participate?

Your participation in this survey is completely voluntary; however your responses will help us learn more about the health of Halton residents and will help improve the health of our community. Your individual information will remain confidential and anonymous. You can refuse to answer any questions if you are not comfortable with them.

How long will it take me to answer all of the questions?

The survey will take about 15-20 minutes to complete. If an interviewer calls and you do not have the time, an appointment can be made for a day and time that is more convenient for you.

Who will see this information?

The information collected in this survey will be used by the Halton Region Health Department to help plan programs and activities. The information collected is also used to write reports, which can be found at halton.ca/healthstats. The reports will in no way identify individuals.
