Healthy School Resources: Halton Catholic District School Board

Public health nurses have been providing concentrated time and support to 18 HCDSB elementary schools who expressed interested in working more intensively using the Healthy School approach. The healthy school approach helps schools to set and achieve school improvement plans and goals.

General Resources

  • Foundations for a Healthy School External Link chart provides a framework and ideas for implementing the Healthy School approach
  • HCDSB Healthy School Guidelines (Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF)682KB) outlines the criteria for engagement in the healthy school pilot project, as well as the keys to future sustainability. In addition, the role of the public health nurse in supporting your school is described.
  • Healthy Schools Action Plan Template (Microsoft Word) – a template to be used by Healthy School Committees to guide the development, implementation and evaluation of a school community action plan.
  • HDSB Healthy School Ring resource (Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF)682KB) based on the Ministry of Education’s Foundations for a Healthy School framework, this resource provides a summary of healthy school ideas. The cards can be cut into 8.5x5.5 size and assembled on a ring for easy access.
