Dealing with Smoking Cessation

  • The Smoke-Free Ontario Act took effect in Ontario in 2006. This legislation bans smoking in all enclosed public places and workplaces.
    • As an enclosed workplace you are required to post "No Smoking" signs at all entrances and exits and other appropriate locations.

Tips for Employers

  • Allow employees to submit the cost of their smoking cessation aids for partial or full reimbursement.
  • Allow employees to visit Stop Smoking Clinics during work hours.
  • Offer smoking cessation supports such as individual counselling, self-help resources, group programs, lunch n' learn sessions.
  • Reimburse employees for the cost of a quitting program.
  • Plan to hold activities during annual events such as National Non-Smoking Week (3 rd week of January) and World No Tobacco Day External Link , May 31 st every year.
