NHMHC does not provide:

  • Emergency services
  • Treatment to those who's primary problem is social, educational economic (e.g., housing, family conflict, etc.), or one of physical health without a concurrent psychiatric concern
  • Service where clients or their substitute decision makers are not willing to provide consent to treatment

What services are offered:

  • Free community-based specialized assessment; consultation and treatment for those experiencing complex and serious mental health illness' who live in North Halton
  • Delivered by interdisciplinary team of mental health professionals

Admission Criteria:

  • Patient must reside in the North Halton area
  • Referral from a psychiatrist or family physician for those over the age of 6 who have symptoms of a DSM-IV Disorder
    • Disorders may include one or more of the following:
      • Mood disorders such as Depression and Bi Polar Affective Disorder;
      • Anxiety Disorders such as Generalized Anxiety Disorder; Panic Disorder;
      • Agoraphobia, Phobias; Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder;
      • Psychotic Disorders such as Schizophrenia; Delusional Disorder; Schizo-Affective; Disorder; and Psychosis Not Otherwise Specified; 
      • Concurrent Disorders (mental health and addiction);
      • Psychiatric Disorders of Childhood and Adolescence.

      Note: These symptoms should be significant enough that they interfere with the individual's ability to function in at least one life area. There is an expectation that the individual has the capacity to make significant progress toward treatment goals.

How a physician makes a referral:

  1. Complete referral form (PDF file).
  2. If referring to the adult program please complete lab work request form (PDF file) to rule out any possible contributing physical factors.
