What services are available?

The Health Department provides oral health information and services to adults with special needs, their families and health care providers on the following topics:

Dental Health staff is available for educational in-services on the above topics and other specialized areas of oral health information.

Is there any financial assistance available for dental treatment?

The Dental Care Counts program is offered by the Halton Region Health Department to provide financial assistance with dental treatment for adults who qualify.

How do I qualify for financial assistance?

To qualify you must be:

  1. An adult aged 65 and over with a dental need and financial need.
  2. An adult with special needs, and aged 64 and under who meet all the following requirements:
    • Has a dental need.
    • Lacks the financial resources to pay for dental treatment.
    • Has difficulty with one ore more of the following:
      • dressing
      • grooming
      • toileting
      • physical transferring (for example, difficulty getting in and out of bed and/or the shower, going up and down the stairs, etc.)

How do I apply for financial assistance?

Before you book a dental appointment, call the Halton Region Health Department .

What services are available to Long-Term Care Homes, Hospitals, and Community Agencies?

The Dental Health staff will provide:

  • Oral Health education sessions
  • Individual oral hygiene instruction for clients and care givers
  • Periodic dental health surveys
  • Additional oral health resources and consultation upon request
