How will I know if therapeutic abortion is the right choice for me?

An abortion may be right for you if:

  • You believe that you have the right to choose an abortion.
  • You are choosing abortion out of thoughtful consideration rather than panic or desperation.
  • You can make an early decision.
  • You can consider the feelings of your partner and your family but ultimately understand that a pregnancy option decision belongs to you.
  • You are willing to wait for another time to have a child to raise.
  • You can manage the potential finances of a legal abortion.
  • You are willing to make arrangements for the abortion and necessary aftercare.
  • You are prepared to handle the emotional aspects of abortion.

The Health Department Sexual Health Clinics offer free and confidential counselling regarding all pregnancy options. Appointments can be made with a public health nurse to discuss therapeutic abortions and the post-operative care.
