Study Level and Process:

  • The study was conducted as a Schedule “C” project to meet the requirements under the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Municipal Engineers Association 2007), which is an approved process under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act.
  • The Class EA Study fulfilled Phases 1 through 4 of the Municipal Class EA process.
  • The Class EA Study identified a preferred solution for increasing wastewater treatment capacity and a preferred design concept to achieve the required wastewater treatment capacity.
  • Public consultation was an integral part of the planning process.

Purpose:

Halton Region has identified the need for additional wastewater treatment capacity to service the forecasted growth in the approved Acton urban area. The Acton Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Class Environmental Assessment Study (Class EA Study) was completed to identify a preferred strategy and design concept to achieve the required wastewater treatment capacity.

Scope:

  • Evaluation of different alternatives providing additional wastewater treatment capacity.
  • Evaluation of different design concepts achieving the required wastewater treatment capacity.
  • Identification of any environmental impacts and mitigation measures.
  • Preparation of Environmental Study Report (ESR).

Key Recommendations:

Recommended strategy is to construct additional wastewater capacity at the existing plant.
