The Halton Region Museum Reference Library and Archives is located on the 2 nd floor of the Museum's Visitor Centre.
We offer a Reference Library, Archives, and Research Assistance.
Research hours by appointment Monday to Friday between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please call 905-875-2200 ext 25 for an appointment so that we can have a staff member on hand to assist you.
Researchers appreciate our onsite: Photocopier, Internet Access, and Community Workroom.

The main focus of the Museum's specialized library is published and unpublished local history and genealogical materials that relate to the municipalities of Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton, and Oakville. The library also has historic catalogues, generic historical publications and an eclectic assortment of books that provide interesting reading to researchers.
Our research files include local family trees & biographical material, information on historic places, objects & events, in addition to general subject classifications. The Library and files are for reference only. Materials are not available for off-site loan.

Learn About Our Specialized Collection
In the Archives we have a variety of local materials dating from c.1830 to c.1940.
We offer letters, diaries, maps, plans. postcards, receipts, bills, mortgages and many other document forms. In addition we have collections of family papers, ledgers from the Halton County Courthouse, bound copies of Halton County Council By-Laws and Minutes, Voters Lists, account and minute books of local organizations and a number of periodicals.
Our collection of over 2400 photos covers a range of subjects and time periods. Reproductions are available at cost with an additional $10.00 service fee. Credit must be given to Halton Region Museum when archival photos are used in promotional materials or exhibitions.
Providing You With Tools For Success
If you’re far away or stuck for time we are pleased to search the Museum’s Archives and Reference Library for you. We will complete a one hour search within 4 weeks of receipt of request and provide you with a written report of our findings. Fee $25.00 for one hour (includes photocopying). Additional research $20 for each subsequent hour requested.
