The Halton Region School Tour Program was established to raise awareness of Halton Region’s programs, services and facilities to:
- assist teachers in incorporating regional government activities into the grade five curriculum on municipal government;
- to personalize regional government for school-aged children; and
- to further educate teachers and students about the differences between municipal government and regional government.
The School Tour Program provides students with the opportunity to learn about:
- The role of Regional Council
- Halton’s role in emergency preparedness
- Police Headquarters’, including the jail cells and the communications centre;
- Halton Region’s Emergency Medical Services - the role of paramedics;
- The Halton Waste Management Site - waste disposal and recycling.
- One of Halton’s wastewater treatments plants.
- All tours are booked through the school boards.
