Farm Safety Tips

Remembering the following simple health and safety tips will help to ensure your farm experience is enjoyable.

Cider/Juices

  • Boil unpasteurized juice/cider before consuming
  • Do not serve unpasteurized juice/cider to children, the elderly or people with weakened immune systems
  • Do not reply on refrigeration and freezing to make unpasteurized juice/ cider safe.

Other Foods

  • Read product labels and respect "best before" dates
  • Keep in mind that farms may sell both graded and ungraded eggs
  • Only buy meat products that contain lables with a packing date
  • Wash fruit and vegetables before eating
  • Transport perishable foods directly to your home or place in a cooler with ice packs

Animals

  • Wash your hands with soap and water after touching the animals, before eating or touching your face
  • If bitten or scratched, immediately report it to the owner/operator and seek medical attention; also report it to Halton Region Health Department at 905-825-6000.
