Final Reports
The PRTD Project uses industry-sector surveys to evaluate tourism opportunities in Halton’s local communities. This data will be compiled in one comprehensive database, then reviewed by the steering committee with industry sub-committees from each tourism sector to assess current regional industry strengths, weaknesses, attributes, product/service gaps, factors and conditions that impact existing and future development plans and opportunities in Halton.
Official members of the Halton PRTD Project Steering Committee and project partners include: Halton Region, Tourism Burlington, Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce, Milton Chamber of Commerce and the Oakville Economic Development Alliance.
Other participating and public supporters of this project include: City of Burlington, Burlington Economic Development Corporation, Burlington Chamber of Commerce, Town of Halton Hills, Town of Milton, Town of Oakville, Oakville Chamber of Commerce and private sector industry stakeholders.
Funding partners in this project include the Ministry of Tourism, Service Canada and Halton Region.
Halton Regional Council Approves Premier-ranked Tourist Destinations (PRTD) Final Report - September 19, 2007
At its meeting of September 19, 2007, Halton Regional Council adopted Administration and Finance Committee Report No. 11-07, which among other matters dealt with the Halton Region Premier Ranked Tourist Destinations Project - Final Report. In so doing, Council received the Premier Ranked Tourist Destinations (PRTD) final report dated August 7, 2007 and endorsed the establishment of a Halton Tourism Advisory Committee facilitated by Halton Region staff, in order to implement the recommendations of the PRTD final report.
Council also approved the Terms of Reference for the Halton Tourism Advisory Committee as outlined in staff Report No. CS-71-07 and the following members of Regional Council were appointed to Halton Tourism Advisory Committee for a term to expire on November 30, 2010, or until their successors are appointed:
- Keith Bird (Regional Councillor, Oakville)
- Cam Jackson (Mayor, Burlington)
Regional Council provided authorization for the Regional Clerk to advertise for the eight non-Council Members for the Halton Tourism Advisory Committee.
About the Halton Regional Tourism Advisory Committee
The Halton Regional Tourism Advisory Committee is an Advisory Committee to Regional Council which is to advise and assist the Region with respect to Tourism Issues and implement the findings of the PRTD final report of August 7, 2007. The Halton Regional Tourism Advisory Committee was established in early 2008. The Halton Tourism Advisory Committee Agendas and Minutes are now available on-line.
Presentations to Tourism Industry
Draft recommendations to be incorporated into the final report were presented at an Industry Breakfast meeting held on Tuesday, May 29, 2007.
