Diversity refers to the inherent value in the distinctive characteristics, qualities and elements of an individual, a group of individuals, or a community. These characteristics, qualities and elements include ethno-racial, faith, gender, mental ability, physical ability, literacy/educational level, age, sexual orientation and economic circumstances (HDAC T of R, 2006).
Halton Diversity Advisory Committee (HDAC)
Who We Are
The Halton Diversity Advisory Committee (HDAC) is an advisory body that works to enhance awareness and understanding of access and diversity issues while promoting respect, access and inclusivity for all Halton residents.
HDAC Welcomes Public Input
All are welcome to attend meetings of HDAC. We encourage input from the public, either in writing or in the form of a delegation at one of our meetings. HDAC meets quarterly, and details of upcoming meetings can be obtained by contacting us.
What we Do
HDAC works with Regional Council, Regional staff and Halton residents to:
Language Diversity
This list shows in descending order the top 17 languages spoken most often at home in Halton, as reported in the 2006 census.

- share information and best practices on access and diversity
- respond to requests for comments or advice from Regional Council
- establish working groups that provide education on issues relating to access and diversity in the community
HDAC reports to Regional Council through the Health and Social Services Standing Committee.
Membership
- 3 Regional Councillors
- 1 representative from the Halton Regional Police Service
- 1 representative from the Halton Multicultural Council
- 1 representative from the Interfaith Council of Halton
- 1 representative from the Halton Organization for Pride & Education (HOPE)
- 8 citizens-at-large including citizens from each of the local municipalities
Committee Term
Members are appointed for a term that coincides with the 4-year term of Regional Council.
