The Salvation Army Halton Lighthouse In Oakville

Light shines for Halton's homeless - the official opening of the Salvation Army Halton Lighthouse shelter took place in Oakville on Tuesday March 8 with representatives from The Salvation Army, Halton Region and the Federal Government participating. Project History 

  • In January 2003, Halton Regional Council endorsed the final report of the Emergency Housing Advisory Group, outlining mandatory criteria for siting and operating an emergency shelter.
  • A site was proposed in April 2003, and a zoning amendment application was submitted to the Town of Oakville, and finalized in July 2003.
  • Halton Region, in partnership with the Salvation Army, will continue to follow the communication guidelines set out in the Emergency Housing Advisory Group Final Report to ensure ongoing public information and opportunity for community involvement.
  • The Salvation Army has established a Neighbourhood Liaison Committee to encourage community collaboration and to provide ongoing advice and feedback.
