Your Responsibilities in the Rent Supplement Program

  • You are responsible for paying your portion of the rent directly to your landlord. Halton Region pays the subsidy portion directly to your landlord.
  • You must inform Halton Region of any change in household income as soon as possible so that the subsidy payment to your landlord is adjusted accordingly.
  • You have signed a rental lease with your landlord and are responsible for following the rules set out in the lease and in accordance with the Residential Tenancies Act.Link to external site
  • Any questions you have about rent payments, upkeep of the residential premises, emergencies after hours, problems with neighbours, moving out, etc., should be directed to your landlord and not to Halton Region.

Your Landlord’s Role

Your landlord is responsible for the normal landlord/tenant relationship, such as rent collection, maintenance, formal notices, and repairs and services as per the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 (RTA) Link to external site and all other applicable legislation.

Your landlord is responsible for adhering to the provisions of the Rent Supplement agreement they have signed with Halton Region.
