Driving Information for Seniors

Driving may be your greatest source of independence for an older person. A driver's license can help to maintain an active lifestyle, keep up social interaction with family and friends and look after needs such as grocery shopping and getting to doctors appointments.

When do I have to renew my driver's licence?

  • Starting at age 80, drivers are required to renew their driver's licence every 2 years.

How do I renew my driver's licence?

The requirements to renew your licence include completing the following:

  • Vision test.
  • Written test.
  • Group education session, providing information on driving tips, age-related changes that can affect driving and ways that seniors can adapt.
  • You may also have to take a road test, a decision that will be made by the counsellor at your education session.
