Child Development Screening Clinics: ASK (formerly known as DEIPP) - Physician Information


Where physicians refer families with existing developmental concerns:

How can patients book an appointment for ASK

  • No charge/ no appointment needed
  • Services provided on a first come — first served basis
  • The consultation service is available to all families with children that are not yet eligible for school (for this year, children born in 2012 or later)
  • Offered to families who reside in Halton Region.

What services are offered:

  • ASK is intended for family's who have questions or concerns about their child's development. 
  • Free 15 minute consultations with professionals from community agencies in the following areas:
    • Speech
      A Speech Language Pathologist will briefly screen a child in the area of speech and language.
    • Hearing
      Audiologists provide a check of child’s hearing. Young child playing with a toy train as her mother watches her

    • Behaviour
      A Consultant will briefly discuss questions and concerns regarding parenting and behaviour.
    • Development
      A consultant will discuss questions and concerns about a child’s overall development.
A public health nurse is also available at clinics to provide information on nutrition, safety, immunization, parenting, etc.

Is a physician referral needed?

  • No, but as a physician you can let your patients know about this service.
