Vermicomposting is the process of worms breaking down organic material into a nutrient-rich soil conditioner.
Most often, Red Wigglers (Eisenia foetida) or Red Earthworms (Lumbricus rubellus) are used.
Kitchen waste suitable for worms includes coffee grounds and filters, tea bags and plate scrapings, as well as rotting fruit (including citrus fruit but NOT citrus peel), vegetable peels, leftovers, moldy bread, etc.
Worms used in vermicomposting prefer temperatures of 12 - 21 o C (55 - 70 o F). The temperature of the bedding should not drop below freezing or above 32 °C (89.6 °F).
