Household Hazardous Waste Depot

In Halton Region, household hazardous waste is not collected with garbage or bulk waste. Household hazardous waste can injure waste collectors, and can damage the environment if disposed of improperly. Household hazardous waste must not be put in the garbage or poured down the drain.

Many retailers take back select household hazardous waste (paint, batteries, oil filters, pesticides, solvents, antifreeze, etc.) for recycling or safe disposal. Orange Drop is a Stewardship Ontario program that ensures materials are safely recycled or disposed. Visit www.makethedrop.ca

Take It Back! Halton is a directory of local businesses, non-profit organizations and
municipal facilities that take back materials to be reused, recycled or disposed, such as

Household Hazardous Waste Depot at the Halton Waste Management Site
Halton residents can drop off limited quantities of household hazardous waste, free of charge at the Halton Waste Management Site. Each year the HHW Depot recycles or properly disposes over 800,000 litres of household hazardous waste.
There is a 20 litre maximum per visit. No commercial hazardous waste can be accepted.

- Batteries (household and car)
- Bleach
- Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs)
- Fertilizers
- Fluorescent tubes (8 maximum)
- Fuels
- Garden chemicals
- Household cleaners
- Medications
- Motor oil and filters
- Paint
- Empty paint cans (dry with lids removed) and other empty containers (with no liquid or power residue) can be disposed of with regular garbage.

- Propane tanks (including those using the Green Key® product)
