Did you know? Plastic plant pots and trays are not accepted in the Blue Box because the plastic can be difficult to process with other acceptable plastic materials. Plastic plant pots and trays can be easily recycled if they are collected separately.

To make it easier to collect these materials, Halton Region piloted a drop off recycling program for plastic plant pots and trays at the Halton Waste Management Site.

The plant pots and trays collected during this pilot will be recycled in Ontario and made into new plastic products including new plant pots!

The Pilot Program is now complete for 2011. 
Results are being assessed to determine how the program may continue in 2012. Stay tuned for more details.

Some retailers and garden centres also take back plant pots. Conditions apply; please check with the retailer when dropping off materials.
