Rain Barrel Sales - Frequently Asked Questions

1. How much are they?

  • $45 each (taxes included)

2. Why do I need to bring proof that I live in Halton Region?

  • Only Halton Region residents may purchase a rain barrel from the Truckload Sales.

3. Can I purchase more than one rain barrel?

  • Purchases at the truckload sales are generally limited to 1 per person. If sales are slow, the Halton program coordinator may use discretion and allow purchase of more than one rain barrel.
  • Residents may purchase a rain barrel from more than one sales event.  

4. How can I pay?

  • Cash only. The supplier may have debit/credit service available, but we cannot guarantee its reliability during the sale.
  • You may Pre-pay for your rain barrel through the supplier's website, and choose the $20 delivery option or arrange for someone to pick up the rain barrel for you, as long as they present your receipt showing the rain barrel is paid for. 5. I can't make it to any of the truckload sales. Can I come in and buy one from Halton directly?

  • You may Pre-pay for your rain barrels through the supplier's website, and choose the $20 delivery option or arrange for someone to pick up the rain barrel for you, as long as they present your receipt showing the rain barrel is paid for.   • Halton Region does not purchase nor keep rain barrels in stock.
  • By holding four separate sales at convenient locations throughout Halton Region, our goal is to provide as much opportunity to participate as possible.
  • If you have extenuating circumstances, please contact Halton Region at 311 prior to the last sale date of June 13, 2015.

6. If the event sells out before 1:00 p.m., will you offer rain checks?

  • Yes, rain checks will be offered up until 1:00 p.m. on the day of the sale only.
  • Staff have worked with the supplier to ensure sufficient supply at each event.

7. Will there be long line-ups?

  • In the past 5 years line-ups have been minimal.
  • With an event such as this, it is difficult to completely eliminate line-ups but we have put the following place to minimize wait times:
    • Selected larger, more accessible sites
    • Two sales tables during morning busy period
    • Increased supply thereby encouraging residents to avoid all coming first thing in the morning. Provide rain checks if supply runs out.

8. The rain barrel I purchased last year cracked/needs replacement parts, can I get a replacement?

  • As indicated on the receipt provided at time of purchase, the purchase arrangement is between the supplier and resident (not Halton Region). For rain barrel purchased in 2014, 2015, or 2016, please contact:
  • Concerns with a rain barrel purchased in 2010, 2011, 2012 or 2013 are to be directed to last year's supplier who can be reached at:

9. Can I connect the new design to my old rain barrel?

  • Yes, using a connector piece similar to the overflow hose you can connect the rain barrels in series. Connector hose can be purchased from most hardware stores. Be sure to attach the overflow hose to the last rain barrel in the series.

10. I live outside of Halton Region – can I purchase a rain barrel from one of Halton's truckload sales?

  • No – the sale is for Halton Region residents only. All purchasers will be required to show proof of Halton Residency such as a driver's license.
