Halton Region Health Department is pleased to introduce the Test Your Well Water Reminder Service for private well owners. Sign-up to receive reminders 3 times a year to test your well water for bacteria (in spring, summer and fall).
Testing your well water at least 3 times every year will keep you up-to-date on the quality of your family's drinking water. It is your responsibility as a well owner to take samples, and inspect your well to ensure that your drinking water is safe. You can order a well water sample bottle for bacterial analysis from the Health Department's website.
Many rural homes in Halton Region receive their drinking water from private wells. In the summer of 2006, the Health Department undertook the first phase of the Halton Region Rural Drinking Water Study.
The study revealed that 37% of the homes surveyed had unacceptable water quality in terms of bacteria.
The information obtained from this study will assist the Health Department with planning and implementing activities aimed at helping rural homeowners better understand the importance of maintaining a safe water supply.
