Information for Parents/Caregivers

• Support for parents-to-be and new parents- Classes for parents-to-be on a variety of relevant topics (Healthiest Babies Possible program) and weekly drop-in sessions for parents with babies under six months (Calling New Parents program). Both programs are free of charge.
• Halton Prenatal Nutrition Program- Resources to help women improve their health, support healthy eating during pregnancy and increase the number of babies born with a healthy weight.
• Healthy Babies Healthy Children Program- A program linking parents and children from birth to three years of age, with services they need to promote healthy growth and child development.
• Breastfeeding Supports (Halton Breastfeeding Connection) - A volunteer program that provides mother-to-mother support for expectant or breastfeeding mothers.
• Parenting Information and Triple P (Positive Parenting Program).

Other Programs

• The Dinewise program is a mandatory food safety program for restaurants and food take-outs in Halton.
• The well water safety program assists private well owners in maintaining private wells to ensure that their well water is safe for drinking.
• The dental program provides education, screenings, and community surveys. Financial assistance for dental treatment is available to those who qualify.
• The falls prevention program provides home visits to help older adults assess and decrease their risk of falling.
• The schools program seeks to act as a resource to students and staff in schools about mental issues. Trained peer leaders are also available to run a program (Youth Net/ Talking About Mental Illness) that gives youth a forum to express, explore and discuss their concerns about mental health issues.
