Regional Chair Gary Carr: Help shape the growth of your community

Jul 29, 2020

Halton is one of the fastest-growing communities in Canada—with thriving urban areas, a strong local economy, productive agricultural areas, and rich natural landscapes—it is a place that so many want to call home. One of the ways that Halton Region ensures we can balance the pace of growth with a sustainable future is maintaining a Regional Official Plan.

The Regional Official Plan sets goals and objectives that reflect resident needs and preserves the high quality of life in that makes Halton such a great place to live. It helps us to identify:

  • how and where areas grow;
  • how we preserve our natural heritage systems;
  • how we create job opportunities through employment lands; and
  • where Regional infrastructure investments, such as roads, water and wastewater systems, are needed in years to come.

Reviewing our current Plan

As more families and businesses choose Halton to live and work, we are reviewing our Regional Official Plan to ensure it continues to meet the needs of our community today and in the years ahead. Reviewing the Plan also ensures we are aligned with Provincial policies and remain responsive to current social, economic and demographic conditions.
Here are the five areas that are currently under review:

Get involved and have your say!

The Regional Official Plan shapes how and where Halton grows—and your input is valuable as we make these decisions for our community! We are officially kicking off our consultation period with an online questionnaire that residents are being asked to complete by September 28, 2020.

To help you learn more about each area under review, we have created summary webpages and posted Discussion Papers on our website. You can also learn more by watching the Council Workshop video where we discussed the review.

To share your feedback on the areas under review, vist halton.ca/ropr and follow the links on any of the summary pages to:

  • Take our general questionnaire: Provide high-level feedback on theme areas relating to the Regional Official Plan.
  • Complete our technical questionnaire: Provide detailed feedback on theme areas relating to the Regional Official Plan. The technical questionnaire contains questions on each of the five discussion papers. You can answer any of the questions that you are interested in.

There will also be opportunities for residents to share their thoughts through virtual Public Information Centres this fall. More information on those events will be available soon.

Thank you for your participation in our Regional Official Plan Review process and for providing your feedback! Through your input, we can shape the growth of our community and keep Halton a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire. To request the questionnaire in an alternative format, please call 311 or email accesshalton@halton.ca.
