Add physical activity to your day for improved health and well-being

Jan 02, 2020

Building physical activity into your daily routine can have a positive impact on your overall health and well-being. If you plan on setting new health goals this year, there are a number of ways to stay active in our community.

Stay active to stay healthy

Being active is an important part of healthy living. It prevents disease and even helps you live longer. As a former professional hockey player, I know that regular activity can boost energy levels, promote better sleep and help to reduce stress.

According to the Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines, adults should be physically active for at least 150 minutes per week, in increments of 10 minutes or more. To access activity guidelines for all ages, visit Halton’s Physical Activity webpage.

Make a plan to move more

Looking for events that can keep you active? Get outdoors to explore the region’s scenic lakefront or Escarpment trails, go skating at one of the many outdoor rinks or visit a ski or snowboard hill to improve your overall health and well-being. Download the OneHalton app for a list of local festivals and events across Halton or visit your local municipality for recreational programming. Whether you decide to explore activities outdoors or indoors, there are a variety of excellent activities and programs for all ages.

If you are looking for ways to get active as a family, connect with our HaltonParents team, who can recommend family-friendly healthy living supports. One of the many reasons our region is a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire is because there are plenty of opportunities for residents to get outdoors and engage in healthy activities. I hope you enjoy the winter season in Halton region!
