Digital Skills for Entrepreneurs


The Digital Skills for Entrepreneurs program provides training on computer basics, social media and e-commerce to help you grow your business online.

Program overview

Are you looking to enhance your digital skills and help your business reach new audiences? Join the Halton Small Business Centre and Code Mobile(external link for a free weekly digital skills boot camp to take your business online. Workshops will cover computer basics, social media and e-commerce.

We encourage entrepreneurs to join us for all sessions to make the most of their learning experience. You can also attend the sessions that best suit your needs. If you attend at least 10 sessions, you will receive a certificate of completion.

Part one: Introduction to the digital space

Location: Newcomer Centre, 690 Dorval Drive, Oakville
Date and time: Tuesdays, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Introduction to Computers

Learn some computer basics, including understanding computer features, saving and transferring files and navigating the computer system.

Introduction to the Internet and Internet safety

Find out about safe internet practices. Get informed about staying safe on the computer and protecting your data.

Introduction to Google Suite (GSuite) Tools

Discover how you can use Google Suite (GSuite) tools to support your company’s needs. Participants will get to explore Gmail and Google Docs, as well as learn how to save and manage your documents using a Google Account.

Part two: Using online tools to grow your business

Explore the basics of digital branding and what tools to use when creating your own brand.

Social Media: Part 1

Gain an understanding of social media basics, including the main social media channels and the components needed to create positive content.

Learn about social media policies and discover strategies for building an online community for your business.

Promoting my Business

Take a broader look at marketing strategies and additional tools available to help entrepreneurs to create marketing material.

What is e-Commerce?

Explore e-commerce, including how to research trends and opportunities as well as how to position your business.

Building a Shopify Store

Discover how you can create an ecommerce store using Shopify.

Customize my Shopify Store: Part 1

Learn how to customize your Shopify store, including creating product selections, building pages and adding themes.

Customize my Shopify Store: Part 2

Find out how to operate a Shopify store, including fulfilling orders, managing inventory and delivering customer care.

How to Pitch and Demo

Build a business pitch deck, get presentation tips and practise delivering your business pitch.

Digital Skills Work Session and Expo

Refine and finesse the work that you created in previous sessions. The session will end with an evening expo, where you will share your work with friends and family.
