Introduction

Halton Region provides prenatal education programs for expecting parents and families with newborns while supporting the overall health and well-being of all Halton residents.

To better support residents, the Halton Region Health Department is enhancing our free online courses for expecting parents or families with newborns. These courses are:

  • web-based
  • mobile-friendly
  • include audio voiceovers, closed captioning, videos, quizzes and more to help keep you and your newborn safe and healthy.

Prenatal Classes and Supports

The Health Department continues to offer several prenatal supports including:

The Halton Online Prenatal Program is a web-based, mobile-friendly program that includes audio voiceover, closed captioning, videos, quizzes, and more to help you learn about healthy pregnancy, labour and birth, breastfeeding and taking care of your newborn.  This free program is an excellent option for first-time parents or parents expecting another child who would welcome a refresher course. Your account will be active for a period of one year from the time you create it.

In this free 1.5-hour class, learn the importance of breastfeeding and how to prevent common breastfeeding challenges. Taught by a Certified Lactation Consultant and/or Public Health Nurse. Open to pregnant women and their partners/support person.

A free class designed to educate new parents about the safe installation and use of car seats for babies and toddlers. Includes a car seat inspection by a Certified Car Seat Technician.

To help protect families and staff from the spread of COVID-19, Car Seat Safety workshops have been temporarily suspended.

Having a baby can be exciting and challenging. You may have questions or need help adjusting to life with a new baby. Ontario’s Health Babies Healthy Children (HBHC) program can support you in giving your baby a healthy start in life.

You can connect with HBHC before your baby is born, while you are in hospital or after you bring your baby home. HBHC offers families support and resources in a variety of ways, including over the phone, by email or mail or in person. Call 311 for more information.

Residents can also find alternate prenatal education providers, including in-person classes, at ontariodirectoryprenataleducation.ca (external links)
