Standing Committees

 
Halton's Regional Council is supported in its work by three Standing Committees. Learn more about these Standing Committees.

The three Standing Committees of Regional Council assist Council by receiving staff reports relating to specific areas of Regional policy and making recommendations to Council for approval. These Committees are composed of Regional Councillors and membership is established on a yearly basis. The Regional Chair is a member of all three Standing Committees.

The Chief Administrative Officer and appropriate staff attend Standing Committee meetings, to give advice to Committee members and assist with answers to questions.

During 2019, Council is meeting in a Committee of the Whole format and so no Standing Committee meetings have been scheduled at present. Staff reports are presented directly to Council for approval.

Activities of this Committee

This Committee reports to Council on matters relating to public health and social and community services, including (but not limited to) paramedic services, clinical health, healthy families & environments, housing, services for seniors, children's services and employment services. The Committee also advises, reviews and refers for approval to Council the current and capital budgets of the departments and/or divisions and programs over which it has jurisdiction.

Meeting Times

When required, the Health & Social Services Committee meets Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. on a monthly cycle.

Activities of this Committee

This Committee reports to Council on matters relating to Regional planning and public works and infrastructure, including (but not limited to) community planning, sustainable planning & climate change, planning policy, water & wastewater services, waste management, road operations, and infrastructure engineering and construction. This Committee also holds any and all necessary Statutory Public Meetings relating to the Region's Official Plan and amendments to it in accordance with the provincial Planning Act (external link). It advises, reviews and refers for approval to Council the current and capital budgets of the departments and/or divisions and programs over which it has jurisdiction.

Meeting Times

When required, the Planning & Public Works Committee meets Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. on a monthly cycle.

Activities of this Committee

This Committee reports to Council on administrative, personnel, legal and general financial matters that are not within the purview of the other two Standing Committees of Council. In addition, it holds any necessary Statutory Public Meetings required under the provincial Development Charges Act (external link). The Committee also advises, reviews and refers for approval to Council the current and capital budgets of the departments and/or divisions and programs over which it has jurisdiction.

Meeting Times

When required, the Administration & Finance Committee meets Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m. on a monthly cycle.
