One of our top priorities has always been delivering high quality and reliable water and wastewater services across the region.
Halton is one of the fastest growing communities in the country, and we are committed to making sure these critical services are here now and into the future. This includes water and wastewater system capacity to support the Province’s housing targets by 2031 and our expected population of 1.38 million in 2051.
Simply put, this means that whether you live or work in Halton now or plan to in the future, you can be assured that you will have reliable access to clean drinking water when you turn on the tap and that your toilets will flush.
I’m proud to share some of our quality ratings for our water and wastewater services from 2023:
- 100% municipal drinking water systems compliance;
- 100% water plant maintenance compliance; and
- 99.6% wastewater compliance.
We are in a great position to maintain excellent compliance rates and also keep rates as low as possible. We continue to maintain our AAA credit rating from S&P Global and Moody’s Investor Services which reduces the cost of borrowing and ultimately the cost to our residents as we grow.
I recently shared our strong track record and strong position to continue delivering for our community with the Province at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference. I was happy to lead our Halton delegation and advocate on key priorities for our community.
To learn more, I encourage you to read our overview of how we’re delivering infrastructure to support housing in Halton. You can also learn about existing construction projects, including expansions to existing water treatment plants, pumping stations, reservoirs and more at halton.ca/construction. By supporting our growing community with our excellent services, we will help keep Halton a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire now and in the future.
