Burnhamthorpe Road Bulk Water Station

Halton's new online pre-payment system and keypad terminal, replaces the current Smart Card payment and reader system.

The new online account system offers the following benefits:

• Eliminates the need to purchase smart cards
• Avoids the possibility of lost and/or stolen cards
• Allows you to manage your account online
• Provides you with access to user information, such as historical account balances, monthly/annual water consumption levels and more

Note: Bulk water service connections will not change. Operators will continue to hook up their trucks to the bulk water station in the same way as before (get operating instructions).

1. Set up an online account (external link). Once you set up your account, you will receive:
   • an initial email instructing you to confirm your email address
   • a phone call from Halton Region to validate your application; and
   • a second email instructing you to log into your new account to activate it.
2. To activate your account, you will choose a unique 4-digit Access Code and unique 4-digit PIN number for each vehicle or driver using the bulk water stations. The drivers will need to remember the Access Code and PIN to use the stations.
3. You must deposit funds into your new online account using VISA or MasterCard prior to using the new system at the bulk water stations. If necessary, Halton Regional Center (located at 1151 Bronte Road, Oakville (Google Map link)) can process debit, credit card and cash payments. You still require an online account, even if you are paying in person at Halton Regional Centre.
4. We recommend you set up your online account as soon as possible.

With the installation of the new online prepayment system, Smart Cards no longer function. You will need to use your new Access Code and PIN number associated with your new online account.

Please Note: We no longer have the capability to read the balance of old smart cards.

The bulk water station is easy to operate. It can take anywhere from 10 to 50 minutes to fill a hauler, depending on the volume of water requested.

Step 1

• Approach the bulk water dispensing station slowly.
• Park your truck in the proximity of the filling connection.
  • Make sure that your vehicle does not block traffic.
  • Turn your engine off.

Step 2

• Set up your hose correctly.
  • For bottom filling - Unpack your low-level hose connection and connect to the male camlock filing connection. Use adaptors if necessary.
  • For top filling - Make sure your cistern (tank) hatch is open and the hose extension outlet of the loading arm is pointing towards the opening.

Step 3

• Upon arrival at the bulk water station, the driver will be prompted to input their assigned 4-digit Access Code and PIN number into the keypad terminal.
  • The terminal will display the volume of water in cubic meters available to that account based on the current pre-paid account balance.
• The driver will then enter the desired volume of water in cubic meters to be dispensed, press "Start" and commence pumping.
  • Your online bulk water account will be automatically debited according to the volume of water drawn.
• You may deposit additional funds to your account at any time. Funds will be available within approximately 30 minutes of deposit.
• Smart Cards are no longer used as part of the new payment system.

Note: You may stop the transaction at any time by pressing "Stop".

Step 4

• Unhook your connection.
• Please close keypad terminal cover door.

Abnormal operating conditions may occur during:

• Cold weather or snow storms.
• Freezing rain or severe rainfall.
• High wind.
• Blackouts or at night.
• Equipment malfunction.
• High flow rates.

Should you experience difficulties operating the station, refer to the instructions mounted on the control cabinet access door.

Winter Conditions

Each bulk water station is equipped with a salt box. The Region's maintenance staff ensures that the salt box has salt or salt alternatives in it at all times.

Municipal road crew remove snow at and near the bulk water stations. Some hand shovelling may be required to access the keypad terminal to turn the water on. Be careful while operating on ice or during freezing rain, severe rainfall or high wind.

Please keep door to keypad terminal closed once you are finished dispensing water.

High Flow Periods

The Region experiences higher water consumption rates in the morning, between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., and in the evening, between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.

You might experience a small drop in pressure between these times while filing a tank with water. This might prolong your effort by a few minutes.

Protect your water from being contaminated by organisms or toxic chemicals! Any element of the bulk water collection system could provide a spot for contamination. Here's good advice:

• Cover hoses and nozzles when not in use.
• Disinfect and sanitize your equipment before each use.
