Online Public Engagement: Aldershot Creek Wastewater Main Municipal Class Environmental Assessment

Breadcrumbs

Halton Region is asking for input on the preliminary preferred option for the Aldershot Creek Wastewater Main Replacement in the City of Burlington. This is the Public Information Centre (PIC) for this study, as part of the Schedule B Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) process.

About the project

Study area

Study overview

The existing wastewater main, located within the West Aldershot Creek valley in the City of Burlington, requires replacement due to age and creek bank erosion. This MCEA study will evaluate alternative options for a new wastewater main in the area.

The study is being conducted in accordance with the planning and design process for ‘Schedule B’ projects as outlined in the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (external link) (October 2000, as amended 2007, 2011 and 2015), which is approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, RSO. 1990.

Halton Region is seeking input from the public and other stakeholders to review the work completed and confirm the preferred option for the wastewater main replacement.

Preliminary preferred option

Through this study, Halton Region has considered several wastewater main alignment options. The preferred option for the Aldershot Creek Wastewater Main MCEA Study will replace the existing wastewater main within the same location and remove the existing wastewater main from the eroded creek bed, improving accessibility for maintenance and reducing the environmental impacts on the West Aldershot Creek corridor.

The option is considered preliminary until public, agency and Indigenous community feedback is received through this PIC.

The key features of the preferred option include:

  • no impact to the private wastewater system of Townhouse complex;
  • wastewater main will accommodate capacity requirements for future growth; and
  • minimal impact on local community during construction.

Frequently asked questions

Construction of the new wastewater main is currently planned for 2025.
As part of this Municipal Class Environmental Assessment study, natural environment specialists have conducted field studies to determine the presence of sensitive natural heritage features, environmentally significant areas and surveys for Species at Risk. These findings have been considered in the evaluation of options, and will be included in the Project File Report.

Halton Region will also continue to work directly with Conservation Halton, the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks, and other key stakeholders.

Visiting the project webpage on halton.ca will provide detailed information about the project including the Project File Report and the Notice of Completion. Additional information will be shared by the Region prior to the construction phase of the project.
