Recycling and Waste Events

Special waste drop-off days

To make the recycling of household hazardous waste and electronic waste more convenient for residents, Halton Region holds Special Waste Drop-off Days throughout the year. Special Waste Drop-off Days are for Halton residents only. No commercial waste is accepted.

Compost giveaway

Collected yard waste and leaves are processed into nutrient-rich, natural compost. In the spring and fall, Halton residents are invited to our complimentary compost giveaway at the Halton Waste Management Site. Residents may pick up the equivalent of seven bags of compost per household. Proof of residency required.

What should I bring?

  • Shovels - residents are responsible for shovelling and bagging their own compost
  • Containers or bags - yard waste bags, garbage bags, reusable containers, pick-up bed or trailer for hauling

Staff will be accepting non-perishable food donations for food banks in Halton. Cash donations will not be accepted at this time.

Thank you!

Thank you Halton residents for your waste diversion efforts! Through your participation in Halton’s Blue Box, Green Cart and other waste diversion programs, the Halton Waste Management Site celebrated 25 years of service in 2017. The landfill is now projected to remain open until the year 2044 – over 30 years longer than expected!

See how you can take advantage of additional services and educational opportunities organized by Halton Waste Management.
