Halton Region Responds to Supreme Court Decision on CN Intermodal Appeal
May 08, 2025
Halton Region – The Supreme Court of Canada has declined to hear the appeal related to the CN Intermodal project in Milton. While disappointed by this outcome, Halton leaders reaffirm their opposition to the project and commitment to continued legal and regulatory avenues.
“Although we respect the Court’s decision, we fundamentally disagree with the government’s approval of a project that poses serious health risks and economic disadvantages to our community,” said Gary Carr, Halton Regional Chair.
The Region continues to explore all available legal and planning mechanisms to hold CN accountable and ensure compliance with local and provincial regulations.
“The courts have made it clear: federal approval does not exempt CN from local and provincial planning rules,” added Chair Carr. “We will use every available tool to protect our residents.”
Halton is also calling on the newly formed Federal government to re-evaluate the project given evolving economic conditions and community concerns.
“This is the wrong project in the wrong location. It remains a serious threat to the health and prosperity of Milton and Halton as a whole.”
