Regional Councillor Colin Best re-elected to AMO Board of Directors 2020

Colin has done great work on behalf of Halton over the last two years as a member of the AMO Board having a voice during the Regional Review and most recently with the unprecedented challenges faced by municipalities during COVID-19. Regional Councillor Colin Best re-elected to AMO Board of Directors 2020

Earlier today at the Annual Conference of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), Halton Regional Councillor Colin Best was re-elected to the AMO Board of Directors Regional and Single Tier Caucus for a two-year term (2020 to 2022). This is Councillor Best’ second term on the AMO Board of Directors.

AMO is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that works to support and enhance Ontario’s 444 municipalities to achieve shared goals and meet common challenges through advocacy, policy and consultative opportunities. It promotes the value of the municipal level of government as a vital and essential component of the Provincial and Federal Governments.

“I congratulate Councillor Best on his appointment to the AMO Board of Directors,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “Colin has done great work on behalf of Halton over the last two years as a member of the AMO Board having a voice during the Regional Review and most recently with the unprecedented challenges faced by municipalities during COVID-19. Over the past year, as a member of the AMO Executive and Chair of the Board’s Regional and Single-Tier Caucus, Councillor Best continued to table concerns related to achieving mandated provincial growth targets without the required funding and infrastructure to support the needs and priorities of our residents, while ensuring that growth pays for itself. He also participated in a number of taskforces, advocating the importance of municipal cyber-security, the need for reforms to Ontario’s Joint and Several Liability System as well as the importance of rural economic development and universal broadband access.

“I am honoured to be appointed once again to on the AMO Board,” said Regional Councillor Colin Best. “I am excited about the challenges ahead as I work with my colleagues across the province to ensure that municipalities have the tools and authority to build stronger communities for the future.”

Burlington’s Mayor Marianne Meed Ward was also recently acclaimed to the Large Urban Caucus of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO). The Large Urban Caucus of AMO consists of many similarly sized municipalities including Burlington, Guelph, St. Catharines, London, Kingston and Brantford.

Together, Councillor Best and Mayor Marianne Meed Ward will bring bring Halton’s voice to the table and contribute to AMO’s overall vision and commitment to advance common interests for the good of all Ontario municipalities.
