What you can expect day-to-day

Trafalgar Road is a major north-south corridor that residents, motorists, commuters and businesses rely on to get to work, school, home and retail locations every day.

Halton Region is making every effort to minimize any disruptions and help you plan ahead for construction activity. While most of the work will take place underground, there will be some temporary surface disruptions. Learn more about what to expect day-to-day, our mitigation plans and how to stay connected on the project.

I'm a resident or business in the area

Advance notice of any service disruption or construction impacts will be provided to residents through various means that could include mail, email, social media or updates to the project webpage.

Below are some impacts you may experience:

  • Noise: All work will be scheduled in accordance with local noise by-laws and noise by-law exemptions. Some work outside of regular hours may be required.
  • Night work and weekend work: Night work will be required as part of this project in addition to daytime work. This work will be scheduled in accordance with Town of Oakville Noise Exemption by-law requirements, and we will provide advance notice of any change in work hours to stakeholders within the night work limits.
  • Dust and mud: The contractor is required to keep dust and mud contained.
  • Waste collection schedule:  Waste collection may need to be adjusted to accommodate construction.  Advance notice will be provided to those impacted.
  • Vibration: You may experience some vibration due to the work being done. As a precaution, we recommend that you remove or secure objects on shelves and walls.
  • Water and wastewater services: There may be some disruption to water and wastewater services at various times throughout the course of the project. You will receive written notice of any scheduled shutdowns or disruptions, a minimum of 48 hours before the disruption occurs.
  • Equipment and material handling: There will be construction material, equipment, machinery and staging in the area
  • Temporary conditions and construction staging: There will be temporary fixtures installed/erected in the area (such as fencing, barricades, barrels/drums), traffic shifts, restricted access and temporary conditions (such as pavement markings, stockpiles, interim restorations of sidewalks and roads) throughout construction
  • Increased area activity: There will be increased activity in the area from the contractor, materials and equipment deliveries, and construction crews
  • Tree pruning and removals: To accommodate these works a certified arborist will prune or remove trees in pre-determined locations. To offset the tree removals new trees will be replanted in accordance with Regional and local policies. Certain trees may need to either be pruned or removed
  • Temporary changes to pedestrian pathways: There may be impacts to sidewalks and pedestrian access. Pedestrian detour routes will be identified.
  • Driveway access: Direct access to your driveway may be restricted for short periods of time. We will provide advance notice of any planned restrictions.
