Regional Chair Gary Carr: We’re here for you – providing community supports during COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected us all in many different ways, including socially and financially, and the Region is making it easier to find important information about programs and supports available. We’ve compiled information from a variety of resources to support you during these difficult times. If you need help or just want to lend a hand, there is information posted on halton.ca about a number of critical supports, including:

Social and Community Supports

Please visit our COVID-19 Social and Community Supports page for information on:

  • financial assistance including income supports, tax relief and benefit programs, payment assistance and more;
  • community supports for food, essential goods such as infant supplies and hygiene items, housing and rent resources, emergency child care for essential service workers and care for older adults; and
  • funding opportunities for local non-profit organizations.

Mental Health

It is normal to feel stress and concern during COVID-19. Remember to take care of your mental health, just as you would take care of your physical health.

While physical distancing is important to help limit the spread of COVID-19, we can still find ways to stay connected through technology and practice self-care. Don’t hesitate to reach out to a colleague, friend, loved one or health professional if you need support.

Here are some tips to take care of your mental health:

  • Structure your daily routine: Be specific about when you will go to bed, get up, exercise, eat, shower, dress, work and clean. Keep your mind focused and busy by controlling what you can.
  • Exercise regularly: Exercise helps the body cope with stress. Visit ParticipACTION’s online Physical Activity Resource Guide (external link) for tips on how to stay active at home. For more information, please refer to the Staying active during COVID-19 section of halton.ca/COVID19.
  • Make daily social connections: Set times for when you will phone, text, email or video chat with people you care about.
  • Seek support when you need it: Regularly reach out to loved ones or call a mental health professional in the community if you need support.

For more tips and resources to support your mental health during COVID-19, visit the Mental Health page on our website.

Resources for Businesses
