Prevent the spread of Measles

Feb 28, 2025
Protect yourself and your family from Measles this March Break.

Measles outbreaks have increased in Ontario and around the world. Halton Region Public Health recommends that families protect themselves against Measles to keep our community safe and healthy.

Getting vaccinated is one of the best ways to protect yourself!

Measles is a very contagious disease that spreads easily. You may be vulnerable to Measles if you have not received two doses of a Measles-containing vaccine or have not had Measles in the past.

We strongly encourage everyone to ensure that they have their Measles containing vaccine(s). Measles vaccines are free for everyone in Ontario and are available through your primary care provider (family doctor or nurse practitioner) or at some walk-in clinics.

If your child receives their vaccine, please report it to Public Health online using the province’s Immunization Connect Ontario portal.

Symptoms of Measles:

  • fever
  • cough
  • runny nose
  • red, watery eyes
  • rash with red spots and blotchy patches that start on the face and spread down the body, arms and legs

Monitor for symptoms of Measles and stay home if you are sick!

If you think you have Measles:

  • Stay home and limit contact with others if possible.
  • Wear a well-fitting medical mask.
  • Call ahead to a healthcare provider before seeking medical attention.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our community safe.
