Celebrating Women at Halton: Meet Karlene in Housing Services!

Halton Region provides critical programs and services to our community. With International Women's Day (external link) coming up on March 8, we are taking this opportunity to shine a light on the women at Halton who provide incredible service!

From housing support to Paramedic services and clean drinking water – incredible women are part of our Halton team, working behind the scenes to keep our community the best place to live, grow and thrive.

Let’s get started!

Spotlight: Karlene – Housing Services

Halton is not immune to the homelessness crisis and our community needs housing support now more than ever.

Meet Karlene, an Integrated Housing Worker who works every day with individuals who are unsheltered and homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless. Karlene and the Housing Services team are often the first point of contact when responding to encampments or reports of people sleeping outside. Karlene is passionate about helping people and getting them the resources and services they need to become rehoused and supported.

Watch Karlene's story now:

Karlene’s video references our new assisted and supportive housing development at 265 Kerr Street in Oakville. This is one of Halton Region’s ongoing and shovel-ready projects (PDF file) to bring more housing opportunities to our community. Nearing completion, this development will provide:

  • 52 new assisted housing units;
  • 22 supportive units; and,
  • a Wellness Hub to address the physical, mental, and social wellbeing of those in need.

If you or anyone you know is experiencing or at risk of homelessness, learn more about Halton Region's Housing Supports and Services.

Thank you, Karlene, for everything you do to serve the Halton community.
