Women in Action: Providing Access to High-Quality Drinking Water

As we approach International Women’s Day (external link) on March 8, we are featuring the incredible women at Halton Region who are providing essential programs and services to our community. From waste management programs to digital and information services – a lot is going on behind the scenes to keep Halton a great place to live, grow and thrive!

In case you missed it, check out yesterday’s feature on Karlene in Housing Services. Keep reading for day two of celebrating women at Halton.

Spotlight: Megan and Sandi – Water & Wastewater Treatment

Turning on the tap and having access to clean drinking water is a basic necessity that we can sometimes take for granted.

Meet Megan and Sandi, who help ensure Halton residents never have to give clean drinking water a second thought. Megan is a Sub Foreperson treating groundwater across Acton, Milton and Georgetown, while Sandi is a Water Treatment Operator at the Georgetown Water Treatment Plant. Together, they are part of the great work being done to treat and deliver high-quality drinking water to over 200,000 homes and businesses in the community!

Halton Region owns 12 water treatment plants, including the Georgetown Water Treatment Plant. These plants provide the community with 65,758,000 cubic metres of clean drinking water each year. That’s the same as 72 Olympic-sized swimming pools every day! Learn more about our Water Treatment Plants and the steps we take to deliver clean drinking water to Halton residents and businesses.

If you’re a student looking to get into an exciting and rewarding career in water and wastewater treatment, Megan and Sandi recommend the great post-secondary student programs we have here at Halton. Halton Region’s career page posts co-op student opportunities year-round.

Thank you, Megan and Sandi, for everything you do to serve the Halton community.
