What you can expect
Here are some common potential construction impacts; not all will occur. Where possible, mitigation plans will be implemented, and the project team will coordinate with affected residents and stakeholders throughout construction.
Please use caution when using roads, sidewalks and multi-use paths in the construction zone and follow all signage.
- Traffic impacts: This work may result in traffic delays, lane shifts, lane restrictions and temporary road closures. Electronic signs throughout the project limits will be updated to keep motorists informed of current traffic impacts, and the Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts section of the project webpage will be updated as required during business hours. We will make every effort to minimize any potential inconvenience, and advance notice will be provided for road closures. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.
Temporary road closures are expected on Argus Road and Trafalgar Road south of Cornwall Road. Theses closures have been coordinated with the Town of Oakville, and details, including detour routes, will be communicated in advance and will be published on this webpage. - Lane restrictions and road closures near work areas: Short-term temporary lane restrictions will be implemented throughout construction. Halton Region will provide advance notice for road closures, and any applicable detour routes will be identified. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.
- Truck traffic: You will notice increases in truck traffic as a result of construction activity. Please use extra caution while driving.
- Public transit: Halton Region will update Oakville Transit, Metrolinx, and GO Bus on all construction activities which may impact public transit, and they will communicate this information to their users.

- Driveway access: Direct access to your driveway may be restricted for short periods of time. We will provide advance notice of any planned restrictions.

- Equipment and material handling: There will be construction material, equipment, machinery and staging at Cornwall Road and Inglehart Street North and at Argus Road and Trafalgar Road.
- Erosion and sediment controls: We will install erosion and sediment control measures for the duration of the project, including tree protection fencing and storm catch basin protection.
- Lawn irrigation system: You are responsible for removing any lawn irrigation system from the public road allowance. Halton Region will not be responsible for damaging irrigation systems located within the public road allowance.
- Mail delivery: We do not anticipate any changes or delays to mail delivery. Canada Post will communicate any changes in service to you directly.

- Precondition photos: In the coming weeks, a project representative will take photos throughout the project site before construction begins.
- Pre-construction condition survey: Due to the nature of the construction, the contractor or their sub-contractor may survey identified buildings and residences to document existing structural conditions. The third-party contractor who manages the pre and post construction condition surveys will visit your home to provide a notice on Halton Region letterhead and to speak with you about the survey process. Although participation in the survey is not mandatory, it is recommended.
- Property restoration:Final property restoration will be completed towards the end of the construction project, weather permitting.

Only the section of your driveway that is impacted will be restored, including an additional 1 metre beyond the work area and covering the full width of the driveway for a consistent finish.
- Lawn or landscaping: If your lawn or landscaping has been impacted by this work, new seed or sod will be placed, as required.
- Trees/shrubs/plants: Trees, shrubs, and other vegetation located within the municipal right-of-way may need to be removed to accommodate work activities. Replanting may occur at the same location, subject to the direction of and approval by the local municipality.
- Temporary changes to pedestrian pathways: There may be impacts to sidewalks and pedestrian access. Pedestrian detour routes will be identified.
- Temporary conditions and construction staging: There will be temporary fixtures installed in the area (such as fencing, barricades, barrels/drums), traffic shifts, restricted access and temporary conditions such as pavement markings, stockpiles, interim restorations of sidewalks and roads throughout construction.
- Temporary water or wastewater mains: There may be a need to install temporary, above ground water or wastewater bypass pipes. During this time, you may experience lower water pressure during the installation of the new watermain. Your regular pressure will be restored once the new watermain is installed.
- Traffic impacts: This work may result in traffic delays, lane shifts, lane restrictions and temporary road closures. Electronic signs throughout the project limits will be updated to keep motorists informed of current traffic impacts, and the Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts section of this webpage will be updated as required during business hours.
- Tree pruning and removals: To accommodate the development of the project, with the guidance of a certified arborist, the Contractor may remove some trees from the public right-of-way. Some pruning of hazardous trees and limbs may be required. Trees may be replanted as directed by the local municipality and may be replanted at the same location.
- Truck traffic: You will notice occasional increases in truck traffic around the ongoing work. Please be aware and use extra caution while driving.
- Utilities: During construction, our crews work carefully to identify and avoid underground utilities. However, many telecommunications lines are not located by service providers. As a result, unintentional damage to these lines may occur and we will make every effort to minimize any potential impacts. In the event of a service interruption, the service provider will only coordinate repair appointments with the account holder.
- Vibration: You may experience some vibration due to ongoing construction. As a precaution, we recommend that you remove or secure objects on shelves and walls.
- Waste collection: Your garbage and recycling will continue to be picked up on your regular scheduled collection day. If the collection location is impacted, the contractor will arrange for a new collection pickup location. Please mark your house number on containers or bins to help with identification.
- Water and wastewater disruptions: There may be some disruption to your water and wastewater services during the course of the project. Halton Region will provide at least 48 hours advance written notice of any scheduled water shutdowns or disruptions.
The contractor may also ask you to restrict your water usage at specific times during the course of construction. This is typically for a short duration while they are completing the necessary work on the municipal mains or laterals.
