Paramedic services calls

There were 13 calls for suspected opioid overdose responded to by Halton Region Paramedic Services from . This is higher than the number of calls during January 2025 (7 calls), but slightly lower compared to January 2024 (17 calls).

Emergency department visits

There were 5 visits by Halton residents to an emergency department in Ontario for a confirmed opioid overdose from . This is similar to the number of visits that occurred during (8 visits) and lower than the number during (11 visits). However, data for onwards are preliminary and subject to underreporting.

Naloxone distribution and training

There were 116 naloxone doses distributed through Halton Region Public Health in and 1,322 naloxone doses distributed over the last 12 months (). There were 51 clients who received naloxone training from Halton Region Public Health or a community agency in Halton in .

Opioid-related deaths

There were 19 confirmed opioid-related deaths known to the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario from . This is lower than the number that occurred during (31 deaths) or (27 deaths). Data for onwards are preliminary and subject to change.

Suspect drug-related deaths

There were 3 suspect drug-related deaths among Halton residents from . This is similar to the number that occurred during this month in 2025 (4 deaths) or 2024 (6 deaths). Data are preliminary and subject to change.

Halton compared to Ontario

Rate of emergency department visits

In 2024, the rate of emergency department visits for confirmed opioid overdose among residents of any age was 24.2 visits per 100,000 in Halton (compared to 29.1 during 2023) and 77.1 visits per 100,000 in Ontario (compared to 86.0 during 2023). From 2015 through 2024, the rate of opioid-related ED visits in Halton has been consistently lower compared to Ontario.

Rate of opioid-related deaths

In 2024, the rate of opioid-related deaths in Halton, among Halton or non-Halton residents of any age, was 4.3 deaths per 100,000 (compared to 4.7 during 2023). In Ontario during 2024, the rate was 13.8 deaths per 100,000 (compared to 16.9 during 2023). From 2015 through 2024, the rate of opioid-related deaths that occurred in Halton has been consistently lower compared to Ontario.
