About the Halton Region Community Circular Economy Fund

Halton Region introduced its Community Circular Economy Fund under the Solid Waste Management Strategy. It supports community-driven projects and programs that help reduce waste to promote a circular economy in our community.

A circular economy keeps products and materials in use for as long as possible through strategies such as sharing, reuse, repair, remanufacturing, and recycling. By extending the life of resources and reducing waste sent to landfill, these practices help support sustainability across our Region.

The Community Circular Economy Fund supports eligible projects and programs that:

• reduce waste and divert materials from landfill
• encourage community participation in circular economy initiatives

Circular economy projects and programs engage Halton residents and businesses to reduce, share, reuse, repair, and repurpose items, building a more sustainable future for everyone.

Project and program focus areas

The fund supports projects and programs that align with the following priorities.

Eligibility and funding categories

Organizations can apply on an annual basis for funding between $2,500 and $55,000 under the Community Circular Economy Fund.

Eligibility criteria for all applicants

All applicants must identify with one of the following categories:

• not-for-profit organization
• neighbourhood associations 
• Business Improvement Areas, Chamber of Commerce 
• academic institutions, school boards 
• libraries 
• Indigenous Communities
• unincorporated community/environmental group or organization

Additional eligibility criteria for funding requests between $25,001 and $55,000

In addition to meeting the eligibility requirements for all applicants, those requesting $25,001 to $55,000 must:

• be an incorporated Registered Charitable Organization as defined by Revenue Canada
• be governed by a volunteer board of directors, or another formal group/person(s)
