Regional Chair Gary Carr: Support local farms and markets in Halton this fall

There are many local food destinations to explore in Halton throughout the year. Fall is a great time to visit or shop at local agri-businesses in our community, and they need our support more than ever as they continue to feel the impacts of COVID-19.

Halton’s farms and markets have been resilient and adapted or enhanced their services so you can experience our agricultural community as safely as possible. In addition to introducing public health measures, more agri-businesses now offer online purchases, home delivery and curbside pick-up of fresh produce and products. From apple orchards to pumpkin patches, there’s plenty of fresh food, goods and fun activities for everyone – plan your next agri-venture today to support and enjoy our local farms and agri-businesses!

You can learn about local farms, check which produce is in season and plan your next family adventure with our online Simply Local map. Visit from your computer, tablet or phone to find a farm near you!.

Use the map to check out what Halton has to offer, including:

  • farmers’ markets;
  • farms with fresh produce and seasonal activities;
  • equestrian activities;
  • nurseries and garden centres; and
  • tourist information.

Please continue to follow public health guidance and any additional measures in place while visiting local agri-businesses, including washing or sanitizing your hands regularly, wearing a mask when indoors or when physical distancing is a challenge, and staying home when you are sick (even with mild symptoms). As always, please also continue to be respectful and kind to others as we work together to support our local businesses and stop the spread of COVID-19. For more information about public health measures in place and how to stay safe while exploring farms, markets or other agricultural locations, please visit halton.ca/COVID19.

By supporting our local farmers and agri-businesses, we help keep Halton a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire.
