Did you know that a simple survey can help shape the future of your community? Every year, Halton Region conducts an Employment Survey that provides a clear picture of how businesses are growing and changing across the region. This isn’t just about numbers—it’s about understanding where businesses are located, what kinds of work they do, and how our local economy is evolving.
Why does this matter?
The insights from the survey help us and the Local Municipalities make informed decisions on infrastructure and policies to support employment, business investment, and growth in Halton. Whether it’s building new roads, expanding water and wastewater infrastructure, or improving services, knowing where businesses are and what they need helps the Region plan better for the future.
At Regional Council this week, we received the 2024 Employment Survey results. Halton is growing, and here’s what the numbers say:
13,500 businesses call Halton home
- 6.3% are new
- 63.8% are independently owned
- 14.9% export goods or services internationally
- 1 in 5 businesses offer work-from-home options
246,100 jobs were recorded in the region
- 70.1% are full-time roles
- 43.2% of jobs come from independent businesses
- 2,600 new jobs were added between 2023 and 2024
Retail Trade leads the way
- 2,307 businesses
- 36,600 jobs in the sector
