Building for Halton's future
The improvements to Burloak Waterfront Park are the result of more than a decade of planning, partnership and investment. The park was envisioned through the Regional Waterfront Park Master Plan, which was approved by Regional Council in 2014 following significant public consultation.
Between 2016 and 2022, Phases 1 and 2 of this project delivered a range of improvements to enhance public access, recreation and enjoyment of the waterfront. These included:
- New pathways and waterfront lookouts
- A gazebo, picnic areas and other gathering spaces
- Demonstration gardens
Preserving the Burloak Waterfront Park's natural environment has also been a key part of this project. Work has included removing invasive trees and shrubs and planting native species to support the local plants and wildlife.
As Halton continues to grow, Halton Region is working to ensure residents have access to enhanced public spaces that support a high quality of life for years to come. The Burloak Waterfront Park improvements are just one example of our commitment to strategic, long-term planning and investment that helps ensure communities have the infrastructure, services and supports needed to serve residents now and into the future.
Work has begun on the new splash pad at Burloak Waterfront Park, conveniently located next to the existing playground and designed to enhance family-friendly recreation along Burlington's waterfront.
Looking ahead
Improvements to Burloak Waterfront Park have been carried out in partnership with the City of Burlington. While Halton Region is leading construction, ownership and ongoing operations of the park will be transferred to the City of Burlington once the project is complete.
With construction now underway, we're excited to see this project take shape. While work is in progress, there may be temporary disruptions including restricted access to certain areas, trail detours, reduced parking and increased noise and dust.
Halton Region will make every effort to complete the Burloak Waterfront Improvements as quickly as possible while minimizing impacts on park visitors and the surrounding community. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to enhance this community space!
