Results are in! Halton remains a great place to do business
Our local economy is strong and resilient. Development has continued at a strong pace and more people are investing in our great region.
Here are some highlights from the 2023 Economic Review:
- Total building permit construction value reached its third-highest building permit value in Halton with $2.8 billion approved for development.
- The amount of non-residential total floor area with building permits issued was 3.1 million square feet, with 2.4 million square feet consisting of industrial development.
- There were 3,300 jobs added to the local economy.
- Halton’s unemployment rate was 5.3 per cent, down from 5.5 per cent in 2022.
- The labour force participation rate was 68.5 per cent, up from 67.4 per cent in 2022.

Making it easy for you to reduce waste and keep your neighbourhood clean
Here’s what you need to know:
- Yard waste starts again in April (urban areas): Yard waste is collected the same day as garbage – view your collection schedule online.
- Pick up high-quality, complimentary compost: Bring your shovels and containers to the Halton Waste Management Site for our annual compost giveaway event May 6 - 12.
- Sunday openings: The Halton Waste Management Site will be open every Sunday between May 1 and June 30 from 8 a.m. to noon.
- Special Waste Drop-off Days: Dispose of household hazardous waste and electronics. Check out our calendar to find an event in your community.
