Flood Recovery and Response

My thoughts are with everyone impacted by the recent flooding. I know that this is a difficult time. Our Public Works team is here to support you through recovery and as you take steps to prevent future basement flooding.

If you experienced flooding, please call Halton Region at 311 or email accesshalton@halton.ca to report it. This is an important step so our Public Works staff can investigate the cause of the flooding and inform you of any grants you may qualify for to help with flood related costs.

  • We are offering enhanced garbage and bulk waste pick up for households who have reported flooding to 311. If this is you, you will be contacted by phone, email and/or direct mail.
  • We continue to offer our Ex-gratia grant to help with flood related costs where flooding has occurred inside the home and is confirmed to be a result of a sewer surcharge or a blockage that occurred on the municipal side of the wastewater system. When you call 311 to report flooding in your home, our team will provide you with information and next steps.

How to protect your home from flooding

Our Enhanced Basement Flooding Prevention Subsidy Program helps you make home improvements that can reduce the risk of flooding from sewer backup. The program provides subsidies and access to qualified, licensed contractors, making it easier and more affordable to get necessary prevention work completed. Apply today to get help with the cost of:

  • Downspout Disconnection: 100 per cent of all eligible costs to disconnect your downspouts from the weeping tile, up to a maximum of $500.
  • Weeping Tile Disconnection and Sump Pump Installation: 100 per cent of the combined eligible costs to disconnect weeping tiles and install a sump pump, up to a maximum of $5,000.
