Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan
Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan
About the Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan
Starting in 2014, we have released reports every five years that outline the steps we are taking to save energy, reduce carbon emissions and manage demand. This helps us comply with O. Reg. 25/23: Broader Public Sector: Energy Reporting and Conservation and Demand Management Plans (external link). The Region is also committed to updating the plan as new information becomes available through our ongoing Net-Zero work (PDF File).
2024 Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan
In July 2024, we released our 2024-2028 Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan (PDF File). The plan introduces new targets and actions to help us do even more.
Between 2024 and 2028, we will work to:
- Use solar power to help reduce the annual energy use of water and wastewater treatment plants by two per cent.
- Use a micro-hydro turbine to reduce annual energy use at the Mid-Halton wastewater treatment plant by three per cent.
- Reduce hydro use of streetlights on Regional roads by four per cent;
- Reduce the heat and hydro use per square foot of corporate facilities by six per cent; and
- Reduce Halton Community Housing Corporation’s collective carbon emissions by 25 per cent.
The Region’s corporate-wide approach to energy management aligns with the 2023-2026 Strategic Business Plan (PDF File) and the Corporate Climate Action Plan (PDF File).
